- Turning: For the Base and Granny Parts, turn the work at the end of every round. For the Shell Pattern Part, do not turn; work with the right side always facing you.

Round 1(RS): Make a magic ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in ring. [Ch 1, 2 dc] 7 times in ring. Join with a sc in the top of the beginning ch-3. Turn. (8 sets of 2-dc)
Round 2(WS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the same space (the sc from the previous round). *Ch 1, skip next 2-dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around. Join with a sc in the top of the beginning ch-3. Turn. (8 sets of 3-dc)
Round 3(RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in the same space. *Ch 1, skip next 3-dc, (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around. Join with a sc in the top of the beginning ch-3. Turn. (8 shells)
Round 4(WS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in the same space. *Ch 1, skip next 2-dc, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around. Join with a sc in the top of the beginning ch-3. Turn. (16 sets of 3-dc)

Shell Pattern Part (Do not turn)
Round 1: Ch 1 (does not count as a sc), sc in the same space. Sc in each of the next 3 dc, sc in next ch-1 sp. *Ch 6, skip next 3-dc, sc in next ch-1 sp, sc in each of the next 3 dc, sc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * around to last 3-dc. Ch 2, skip last 3-dc, tr in the first sc to join. (8 sets of ch-6 sp)
Round 2: Beg 2-dc cl in the same space, (ch 1, 2-dc cl) 2 times in same space. *Skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc (the center sc of the 5-sc group), skip next 2 sc, [2-dc cl, ch 1] 4 times, 2-dc cl in next ch-6 loop; repeat from * around.
To finish the round: skip next 2 sc, sc in next sc, skip last 2 sc, (2-dc cl, ch 1, 2-dc cl) in the first space (the same space as the beg 2-dc cl). Join with a sc in the top of the first dc.
