The Poetry of Kusaki-zome (Natural Plant Dyeing)

My creative journey is deeply rooted in the philosophy of Kusaki-zome (草木染め), the traditional Japanese art of dyeing yarns with botanical elements gathered from nature.

Leaves, roots, bark, and seasonal petals each surrender their unique, gentle pigments into the dye pot. Through this slow, time-honored process, I capture the shifting palette of Japan’s four distinct seasons:

  • The fleeting blush of wild cherry blossoms and fresh spring greens
  • The deep, sun-drenched indigos and herbal shades of summer
  • The warm, earthy ochres and rich persimmon hues of autumn
  • The serene, muted grays and charcoal tones of winter

No two dye baths are ever completely identical. This natural variance is where the soul of handmade fiber art truly lives.

Design Philosophy: Where Tradition Meets Modern Craft

When translating these colors into wearable garments and accessories, my goal is simple: to design pieces that make your heart dance as you work through each stitch.

I believe that the making process should be just as restorative as wearing the finished piece. To make my patterns accessible and enjoyable for makers around the globe, every design includes:
